I'm not going to lie. Valentine's Day started out as a disaster this year. I had it all planned that I was going to make a homemade triple layer strawberry cake for the hubs. I had the day off, so I went to out to buy all of my ingredients. I drove to three different stores before I found all of the ingredients I needed. Who knew how hard it would be to find
strawberry extract. Anyways, I spent two hours making the cake and the homemade frosting. The photo above explains it all. Two of the three cakes fell apart when I went to take them out of the cake pans. Not only that, but the texture was so wierd and the frosting really didn't taste that great either. I felt so defeated. I just wanted to lay on the floor and cry. I spent so much of my time, money, and effort on this stupid cake that I was now dumping down the drain.
At least I was still able to use one of the layers to make a mini cake...Ha!
The day really turned around when Brad came home from work and walked in the door with a big heart-shaped Marble Slab strawberry ice cream cake! O.M.G. I was
sooooooooooo suprised. I was actually glad my cake didn't turn out after all! Ha! (He didn't even know about all of my cake drama...Brad ordered the ice cream cake a week ago!) What a sweet man.
For dinner we grilled out steaks and I made baked potatoes & asparagus to go with them. We both agreed that it was seriously one of the best meals we've ever had.
We enjoyed the rest of the evening with a glass of
Chocolate Shop Chocolate Strawberry wine.
