Happy Two Month Birthday McKinley!

I just can't get over the fact that you are already two months old!!!

Here are some things to remember about your second month of life:

*You are in the 79% percentile for weight and 92% percentile for length.

*You are now wearing size 2 diapers.

*You love playing on your Fisher Price Luv U Zoo Play Gym.  You enjoy looking at all of the lights and hitting all of the hanging toys.

*You love staring at ceiling fans...even if they aren't moving!

*You are smiling so much now...especially in the mornings after you first wake up.

*You have started making cooing noises and they are so cute!

*You were put on Prevacid in addition to Zantac for your Silent Reflux and you are doing so much better now!

*We switched you to Soy Formula (Enfamil Prosobee) and started using Dr. Brown's are a totally different baby now...just as happy as can be!  No more gas issues...thank goodness:)

One Month Old

Happy One Month Birthday McKinley!

I can't believe you are already a month old!!!

Here are some things to remember about your first month of life:

*You now weigh 10 lb 1 oz..holy cow!

*You have outgrown all of your newborn clothing and are now wearing size 3 months.

*You love taking baths and have ever since we brought you home from the hospital.

*You love to eat!  You eat 4 oz. of formula every 2 hours during the day and during the night you eat every 3-4 hours.

*You hardly ever take a pacifier, but when you do, you will only take your Avent clear one.

*You hate being put in your car seat, but as soon as we start to drive down the road you fall asleep.

*You have started following objects with your eyes.

*At two weeks old, you started having a very rough time with tummy troubles.  We have been through five different formulas, we switched to sensitive tummy bottles, and we have been giving you gas drops and gripe water to help the pain.

*You were diagnosed with Silent Reflux today, which makes you scream and cry all day long.  The doctor prescribed you Zantac, which we give you twice a day and you are now on formula with added rice starch.  You are wearing Mommy and Daddy out!!!

McKinley's Birth Story

On the morning of July 1st, we headed to the hospital for my scheduled induction at 6:00 am.  I was being induced at 39 weeks and 4 days because I had not dilated past 1 cm since week 35 and my doctor didn't think it was necessary for me to go past my due date when McKinley was already at zero station and I was completely effaced.

I started having regular contractions once they started the pitocin.  And boy did the contractions get strong once my doctor broke my water!!!  I got an epidural as soon as the doctor said I could.

After my epidural, my blood pressure dropped really low and they had to shut the pitocin off for a while.  Once they started it back up, I was having contractions, but they stayed pretty irregular all day. After a very long day, I was only dilated to 3 cm at 5:00 pm.  My doctor then learned that McKinley was face up instead of face down, which would make it harder for her to fit through the birth canal.  Then, her heart rate started dropping, so they shut the pitocin off again.  At this point, they had to give me an oxygen mask and I really started to freak out.  My doctor came in and basically told us that she did not believe I was going to be able to have this baby vaginally. After being in labor for 12 hours, Brad and I made the decision to go ahead with a c-section so we could get McKinley out safely.

McKinley Kate came into this world at 7:08 pm weighing 7 lb 4 oz and measuring 21 inches long.

It was love at first sight...

My doctor informed me after the c-section that I would never have been able to have McKinley naturally because I have an extremely narrow cervix.  I will have to have a scheduled C-Section with any future babies.

Nobody could have prepared me for how painful the recovery of a c-section would be!  I didn't get out of bed for almost two days.  It truly helped me to feel better once I could stand up and walk around a little bit.

After staying in the hospital for three nights, we were so ready to go home!

Welcome home McKinley!

We have been busy soaking in every little moment with our sweet baby girl.  :)  She is truly the perfect baby and we feel so blessed!!
